The first stop of the day was the Titanic Grave site. You can read the plaques here that tell why this grave site is here.
It is interesting how far we have come, this child that died on the Titanic was previously "unknown" but now has been identified. Check out this link for more on how they did that. Interesting bit we learned. This grave, J. Dawson, is the most popular grave at the site. In fact it is the only area that they have to re-sod due to heavy foot traffic. Most probably can figure out why it is so popular if you have watched the movie Titanic. However, this is not actually Jack Dawson, that character was completely fictional. J Dawson shoveled coal in the bowels of the ship, he did not win a ticket gambling.
After visiting the graves we headed over to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic! Here we were able to learn even more about the Titanic and other ship related things.
The kids took a seat in a Titanic deck chair replica. Chloe was not happen when it was not her turn anymore, she was quite taken by the chair.
I found it interesting that I saw Alma's grave in the grave site and was drawn to it since she had 4 kids traveling with her, then I found out even more information about her at the museum.
Another bit of history we learned here was about the Halifax Explosion. Lots of heartbreaking history on this trip.
An older man who was working on something in the museum stopped me and told me how much he enjoyed seeing when families actually took the time to read and explore the museum like we were with the kids, rather than just rushing through.
The kids liked reading about the Hurricanes this year, especially since Irma had passed through Florida the day before. They also liked the pirates fate over to the left.
It was a great museum and the kids learned a lot. I think we are about done with Social Studies for the year, right? Also, Paul can't take a selfie and smile at the same time apparently.
As part of our ticket in the museum, we also were able to tour the CSS Acadia. The kids really enjoyed being able to go on a ship after looking at them so long!
Lunch was right on the water! We walked down the boardwalk and found Murphy's.
More poutine for Paul.
Lobster Mac N Cheese for me. YUM!
Of course the kids get pizza and buttered noodles.
The kids also enjoyed the gummies that came with their drinks.
We continued to walk down the boardwalk after lunch. Abigail had to have a picture next to this "big thing",
PR is a great big brother and takes such good care of Chloe.
I found a place to get some coffee!
We finally found a Cows! We have seen them everywhere, but closed! PEI had one in Avonlea Village, which was closed. The Ferry had one, which was closed... This one was open!
Our next stop is the Citadel, but first, play a little piano.
The Citadel is up on the hill, overlooking the Harbor. We had a good climb to get there but it was worth it.
PR got the Xplorer packet and gave us a tour of the fort.
We really liked how kid friendly and interactive everything was.
PR took this picture for his Royal Ranger commander, Mr. Shawn.
We aren't sure why dad took the picture. He is a little big for this uniform, don't you think?
We had fun, but it was closing soon. We got our Xplorer booklet completed and turned in just in time.Headed back to the van after a full day, one more thing left to do in Halifax.
Peggy's Cove was our last stop of the day. It was a bit of an adventure to get there since one of the roads was closed and we had to find a new route. I haven't mentioned yet that the Atlas Paul brought with us was almost 20 years old have I? Yeah... Anyway, we made it and it was so worth it.
Just in time for sunset!
One of my favorite pictures.
We attempted to get Chloe to look at us but she was very distracted by a helicopter that was flying around us.
Selfie time!
One last picture at Peggy's Cove before heading back to the hotel for our last night in Canada.
We had to stop and take a picture on the road as well, just too pretty to pass up.
