So I have never been on a plane in my life. Back in June, Paul told me that he might have a work trip to Las Vegas for a conference in October. He asked if I planned to go with him. Of course I do! Only one hurdle. I've got to get on a plane. Now, I wasn't extremely nervous about it but I was a little.
We saw Meteor Crater park from the plane! Super cool. I totally acted like this was my first flight and tried to look out the window all the time. So neat to see things from up in the sky! I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed flying. I drank coffee and sat next to my amazing husband and watched Netflix. What is not to love with that?
We took a morning flight, so we would have time to tour the Hoover Dam before going to the resort. We had a blast. One of Paul's coworkers and her husband were on the flight with us and went with us to the Hoover Dam.
Our tour guide was great, told a lot of dam jokes... get it? I cracked up at every single one of them.
Here we are with Paul trying to tell the person taking our picture to center it on his chest.
Here we are in Nevada and Arizona.
Because we were so close to California, we had to drive over, just so I could say I've been there. We stopped here for a picture.
We also stopped to see these painted rocks. Still not sure what the big deal is but ok.
So we had to stay where the conference was being held, which happened to be at Mandalay Bay.
The bathroom was amazing.
I completely enjoyed the room. Our room did not have a strip view, which I was totally ok with. We had the mountain view. My favorite! I looked out every morning at the mountains.
One would think with as expensive as a room is at Mandalay Bay they could give you a K Cup with your room. Nope. $5 a K cup. Don't even know what kind of coffee it is either!
Good thing I had emailed ahead to find out that it was $5 for each KCup so I just brought my own. Yes I did email them to ask about the coffee situation because it is important regardless of what Paul says.
This is as much of Micheal Jackson as I saw.
I am all about the food so we had to go here.
It was good.
We had to get a picture Hershey's in New York, New York while in Vegas since we stayed at the Crown Plaza on top of the Hershey's store when we were in NY.
Another night we ate at Wahlburgers, I had the Donnie burger. Yum!!
Found a store that carried Black Rifle Coffee! This was even before I tried it, only had heard of it. Unfortunately for me, they didn't have Silencer Smooth already ground so I didn't buy any.
As we walked down the strip, there are people passing out "escort" service cards. These cards have the bare chest of women on them. We saw many of these cards on the sidewalk, I mean thousands of these cards. I was walking with Paul, holding his hand and one person tried to hand Paul a card, I looked at her in disbelief (yes, I'm a sheltered person still) and I said "He doesn't need that." Paul eventually started getting funny and said things to them as they tried to give him cards. One time he said "No thanks, I've got her!" pointing to me. The next he goes, "Nah, thats catfish". The sad thing is, that industry makes so much money they can pay at least 6 people to stand on the sidewalk passing out thousands of high gloss business cards. Not to mention multiple driving billboards. All the same escort service, not several. That is a lot of money just in what we could see.
Yep, Paul is a goofball. At the Irish American in the mall between Mandalay Bay and The Luxor. These were Scotch Eggs and were pretty good.
While Paul had his conference I either chilled out in the room or chilled out by the pool. Paul was a stalker and took this picture of me then hid and texted me saying that the lifeguards sent him this picture of a hot girl by the pool. He's so silly, he brought me food though so I was thankful.
Paul is still working on mastering the art of taking a selfie and smiling. Eventually he will get it.
Overall our Vegas trip was a fun get away. We had amazing friends and family who kept our kids for 6 days while we were gone. I however do not plan to go back to Vegas. The amount of money wasted in that city is sickening. The people who at 5am are just constantly pushing buttons and losing money is sad. The "escort" services offered were heartbreaking, especially knowing what I know about human trafficking and how bad it really is in that city. I can't see how anyone could use an escort service, legal or not, knowing that there was even a slight chance that the woman (or man) could be a victim of human trafficking. Yes, I'm a little passionate about human trafficking because it is a form of slavery that still exists today and is a real problem. January 11th is Human Trafficking Awareness day, my Teen Girls group at church is hosting a fundraiser for Project Rescue at our local Chick Fil A in that night. If you are around, please stop by, eat at CFA and help out a cause that helps women and children impacted by sexual slavery in India, Napal, Bangladesh, Moldova, Tajikistan, Spain, France and Finlind. They have helped over 40,000 victims in those countries.
Our adventure for this trip isn't over yet. My next blog post will be about our Grand Canyon Hike which took place on Friday of that week, the day before we came home.
