We did have a great time stopping in Virginia to see a friend on our way to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to visit family.
I can't leave my phone out without someone taking a selfie.
Once in the Outer Banks we made our way to Nanny and Grandads to visit. We also got to see some #Outerbanksrocks from Aunt Lenie! We found our nephew Destin's wallet at Aunt Lulus house, which is where we stayed that night. She was gracious enough to let me do a load of laundry so we could make it home in clean clothes and not have to wash in the hotel laundry mat.
Aunt Lori gave us one of these Buckeye pods.
Once pealed, you have these shiny buckeyes! Not pictured is our stop with Aunt Vicki! We certainly enjoyed our time with her as well!
On our way out we had to stop at Darrells! I love the seafood there! The best fried shrimp ever. I don't even like Red Lobster anymore. I have no use for the place. If I want seafood it has to come from the OBX.
We saw yet another interesting sign. Tractor Crossing.
We went to Granny and Paw Paws grave on the way to Savanna.
If you have ever traveled this way you know about Pedro! No, we didn't stop. The kids certainly wanted to though.
Now this is where it gets interesting. You see, we had been traveling quite a few hours... it was 10PM and we still had 2 hours to go before reaching Savannah. We love stopping at Cookout whenever we get the chance, their milkshakes are great!
The fries are good too.
But the milkshakes... they have like 40 different flavors.
But back to the crazy. Shortly after this picture of Paul was taken, someone said something goofy, we were all tired, and dad took his shirt off and swung it around before putting it back on. I have not shown the picture of the shirt slinging, but trust me, it was crazy. Thankfully we were the only people in the restaurant and no one else saw. The kids and I told dad to straighten up before they kick us out, we wanted our milkshakes!
That night we arrived at our hotel at midnight. The next day we set out to go to our favorite Savanna stop, the Pirate House!
The kids love this place, mostly because of the pirate place mats I think.
The restaurant is themed after the inn in the book Treasure Island by Robert Lewis Stevenson. Thats why I like it. Plus their Fried Green Tomato BLT salad is amazing.
Abigail wanted to be a fish.
We didn't know it when we got there but it was National Talk Like a Pirate Day! So everyone was dressed in the spirit of things, which made the experience even better.
We also have a candy store we enjoy stopping in. Well, the kids enjoy stopping in and loading up for the ride home.
We walked around just a little bit more before heading out. We enjoy this city so much.
This was such a welcomed sight! Finally!
And this one was even more welcomed, so close to home!!!
When it was all said and done, 5575.6 miles later, we were home. We had an amazing trip and made great memories.
The candy store reminded me of our children’s church. Way too much sugar!
